JO-ANN SUNDERMEIER
Second Soloist

Coming from Pompano Beach, Florida, Jo-Ann Sundermeier began her dance training with Liana Navarro in Miami when she was eight years old. She came to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School Professional Division in 1997 and graduated in 2002. While a student she received the Prince Edward Award, the School’s most prestigious award.

Sundermeier made her professional debut with the RWB in 2002, dancing in Nutcracker. During the 2003/04 season she became an apprentice with the Company and in 2004/05 she was promoted to corps de ballet. Sundermeier has performed in a variety of classic pieces including Romeo & Juliet, Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty and Raymonda. Her contemporary repertoire includes Mark Godden’s Dracula, and Mauricio Wainrot’s Carmina Burana and The Messiah. She has also been a featured company dancer at Ballet in the Park performing a mixed repertoire including a principal role in the technically challenging Paquita.

Last season Sundermeier performed her first lead role with the RWB as ‘Tinker Bell’ for the world premiere of Jorden Morris’ Peter Pan. She was also a ‘Glamazon’ in Mark Godden’s The Magic Flute and ‘Dotty’ one of the stepsisters in Val Caniparoli’s A Cinderella Story. Sundermeier ended the season performing in all three dances of the Angels Plus! triple bill: Hikarizatto, Our Waltzes and Angels in the Architecture.

This season Sundermeier is excited to perform in All Balanchine! Look for her in Concerto Barocco.
