YAYOI EZAWA
Corps de Ballet

Hailing from Chiba, Japan, Yayoi Ezawa began her dance training at the age of nine at Rei Classical Ballet Institute under Reiko Togashi. She has also trained at Momoko Tani Ballet and arrived at the RWB School Professional Division in 2001. Ezawa earned numerous awards during her training including the Arnold Spohr Scholarship and graduated with distinction from the Professional Division in 2003. After completing two years in the Aspirant Program, she joined the Company as an apprentice for the 2005/06 season. Last year Ezawa was promoted to corps de ballet.

Ezawa made her professional debut with the RWB in 2002 in Nutcracker. Since joining the RWB she has performed in several ballets including Romeo & Juliet, The Sleeping Beauty, Dracula and Swan Lake. This past season, saw her performing such roles as the ‘Squirrel’ in Val Caniparoli’s A Cinderella Story and a ‘Fairy’ in Jorden Morris’ Peter Pan. She also danced in abstract works such as Mark Godden’s Angels in the Architecture, Itzik Galili’s Hikarizatto and Mauricio Wainrot’s The Messiah.

Ezawa participated in the 2004 Groundswell New Music Festival in New York City and was a semifinalist at the International Ballet Competition in Jackson in 2006.

She will begin the 2008/07 season performing as a ‘Gypsy’ in the world premiere of Mauricio Wainrot’s Carmen, The Passion.
