GRACE HANLEY

Grace Hanley is originally from Winnipeg and began dancing when she was three years old. She started training at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School Professional Division when she was twelve and graduated in 2003. As a student she received the Arnold Spohr Scholarship and the Prince Edward Award.

Hanley made her professional debut in 1999 as ‘Young Clara’ for the world premiere of Galina Yordanova and Nina Mennon’s Nutcracker. In 2004, she performed in the Groundswell New Music Festival in New York City. After spending a year in the RWB School Aspirant program, Hanley joined the Dutch National Ballet in 2004 as an apprentice where she danced for three seasons. Hanley’s repertoire includes Krzystof Pastor’s In Light and Shadow, ‘Spanish Lead’ in Swan Lake, Balanchine’s Symphony in C and La Bayadère staged by Natalia Makarova.

Hanley returned to Winnipeg this summer to perform in Ballet in the Park where she was featured as the ‘Lilac Fairy’ in the prologue from The Sleeping Beauty. Her first appearance with the RWB will be in Carmen, The Passion as she dances the roles of a ‘Gypsy’ and a ‘Cigarerra.’
