Maureya Lebowitz was born in Malibu, California and grew up in Darby, Montana. She began training at the RWB School Professional Division in 2001 and graduated with ‘Distinction’ in May 2007. During her time at the School, Lebowitz was awarded several scholarships including the Julia Arkos Memorial Award, the Arnold Spohr Scholarship and the Prince Edward Award.
Lebowitz made her professional debut in 2001 when she played ‘Dieter’ in the RWB’s Nutcracker and in 2003 she was ‘Young Clara.’ While a student, Lebowitz was cast in lead roles for the RWB School's Secret Garden and La Fille mal gardée. She also danced lead roles in excerpts from the classical ballet Raymonda, Balanchine’s Pas de Deux Romantique and Don Quixote Pas de Deux.
In spring 2007, she competed at the Youth American Grand Prix in New York City where she made it to the finals. This summer, in the Banff Festival Dance she performed lead roles in Balanchine’s Concerto Barocco and Brian Macdonald’s Tam ti Delam.
Lebowitz joins the RWB for the 2007/08 season as an apprentice.
