Chelsey Lindsay comes from Calgary, Alberta where she took her first dance lesson at the age of three. She began training in the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School Professional Division when she was 15 years of age, graduating three years later with honours. Chelsey was the recipient of the Canadian Pacific Scholarship and also has received grants from the Alberta Heritage Foundation. She has spent several summers training in Banff, one summer being a tribute to Balanchine where she danced several leading roles including the first violin in Concerto Barocco, Symphony in C (Bizet), Theme of Variations, the third theme from The Four Temperaments and the ‘Waltz Girl’ in Serenade.
While still a student in the RWB School’s Aspirant Program, Chelsey made her professional debut with the RWB in 2001 as a ‘Wili’ in Giselle. She joined the Company as a corps de ballet member in August 2002. Chelsey has performed in many contemporary ballets since she joined the RWB, including Mark Godden’s The Magic Flute and Dracula, Mauricio Wainrot’s Carmina Burana and The Messiah. Her classical ballet repertoire includes Romeo & Juliet, Swan Lake and Nutcracker.
Chelsey returns to the stage this season as a ‘Gypsy’ for the debut of Mauricio Wainrot’s Carmen, The Passion.
