The Royal Winnipeg Ballet School’s Musical Theatre Dance Ensemble is a performance group which represents the school at the Manitoba Dance Festival and other events that may arise throughout the year. Students are selected based on their talent, ability, commitment and attendance. Chosen students are invited into the Dance Ensemble on their placement forms at the end of the year; however if your child was not invited directly into the program we encourage them to attend the auditions as outlined below. Teachers may request that students return the week following the audition in order to make a final decision. Following the audition process, an email will be sent out informing the parent of the results of the audition.
In order to participate in the Dance Ensembles, students must also be registered for the following classes in addition to the respective Dance Ensemble class:
Junior Musical Theatre: minimum of 1 musical theatre class, 1 jazz class OR ballet class OR tap class
Intermediate Musical Theatre: minimum of 1 musical theatre class, 1 jazz class OR ballet class OR tap class

These days it is so important that dancers be as well rounded in the performing arts as possible. The expectations in dance for those who have an inkling to pursue the art seriously has risen far above what they have been in the past. New styles of dance have emerged and dancers are expected to be able to adapt to new styles.
For those students who are interested in pursuing ballet examinations in Levels 1 and up, they must be registered in a minimum of 2 classes of the same level and discipline per week, with a strong recommendation of 3 classes per week. The recommendation of 2 ballet classes per week is also for those students who aspire to dance on pointe in the future.
All dance forms benefit each other and we strongly encourage dancers to register for as many classes as possible in each discipline to provide the most well rounded training as possible. Students may add additional classes to their schedule up until October 1st, 2011.
