Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet is pleased to present Dance Downtown on Sunday, October 2, 2011, a free public open house being held as part of the national Culture Days 2011 weekend.
Activities will take place from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. both indoors and on the courtyards of the RWB Building at 380 Graham Avenue and the Manitoba Hydro Building directly across the street. Street and lot parking are available in the immediate area, and regular Sunday bus service will stop directly at the event.
Dance Downtown brings together professional and non-professional dancers of all styles and backgrounds for a full afternoon of impressive performances. At the RWB Studio we will showcase dancers from the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers, Rozmai Ukrainian Dance Company and more! In the lobby of the Manitoba Hydro Building will be a spirited program featuring the RWB School’s Recreational and Professional Division students.
We are excited to bring back the popular outdoor practice of Landscape Dancing, with Drive Dance and dancers from the School of Contemporary Dancers Professional Program.
Dance Downtown features a host of other activities to delight the entire family! Free demonstration classes for all ages will run throughout the afternoon. They include Creative Movement (3-6 years), Introductory Ballet (7 years through adult), and a jazz fitness class (all ages). Ballet costumes will be on display and there will be many costume pieces for the kids to try on. Other kids’ entertainment includes face painting and interactive storytelling.
The RWB Box Office will be open during the event for those wanting to purchase subscriptions to our exciting 2011/12 Season, tickets to the World Premiere of Svengali or an early holiday gift of Nutcracker tickets.
RWB is proud to host a cornerstone event in this second year of national Culture Days celebrations. Culture Days is a collaborative, Canada-wide volunteer movement to raise the awareness, accessibility and engagement of all Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities.
