
Hailing from Sherwood Park, Alberta,
Serena Sandford studied at the Edmonton School of Ballet before joining the
Royal Winnipeg Ballet School Professional Division at age 15. Sandford made her
professional debut with The National Ballet of Canada in 2003 performing in The Nutcracker and Rudolf Nureyev’s The
Sleeping Beauty. In 2004
Sandford joined the RWB as a member of the Corps de Ballet and was promoted to
Second Soloist in 2009.
Sandford's favourite role to date is Nancy in A Cinderella Story. She has also been featured in the role of the Dark Angel in Balanchine’s Serenade, Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker, Mina Murray in Dracula, and Myrtha in Giselle. This past season Sandford made her debut as Lilac Fairy in The Sleeping Beauty and Aunt Josephine in Nutcracker.
Her other RWB repertoire includes Romeo & Juliet, Twyla Tharp’s The Princess & The Goblin, Carmina Burana, In the Upper Room, Moulin Rouge® – The Ballet, Swan Lake, In Tandem, and The Four Temperments.
