RWB SCHOOL KICKS OFF INTERNATIONAL AUDITION TOUR AS WINNIPEG-BORN DANCER TAKES FLIGHT

Local RWB School Graduate Jaimi Deleau joins RWB Company

Winnipeg, MB – (September 19, 2014) Winnipeg-born talent, Jaimi Deleau is the newest Company dancer in the renowned Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company. Beginning her tenure in 2014, the St James native is the only Winnipeg-born dancer in the RWB Company and since the age of three, Deleau trained in Winnipeg dance studios.

From age three to eight, Deleau trained at Charleswood dance studio Kids Etc. Youth Movement Company. The studio owner supported Deleau when she took her next step and auditioned for the RWB School’s Professional Division.

“It was wonderful to have Jaimi with us in her early years. I was so proud that our staff was able to nurture her growth and watch her take the next step towards a career as a professional dancer. I knew the RWB School Professional Division would be a great fit for her professional training,” said Rheesa Schachter, Studio Director of Kids Etc. Youth Movement Company. Jaimi auditioned for the RWB School in 2003 in Winnipeg and spent 9 years training with world class educators in the RWB School Professional Division.

“It has been surreal and a dream come true to be a part of the Company. I never thought it was an option for me, but taking that first audition put me on the path to achieve my dream of being a ballet dancer,” said Deleau.

This year’s International Audition Tour kicks-off in Winnipeg with auditions being held on Thursday, October 9 at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet (380 Graham Avenue). The Winnipeg date is the first of fifteen dates across Canada (October 2014-January 2015, see schedule below) and one date in the US (Minneapolis, January 2015). Every student with a dream to dance or teach professionally is encouraged to attend.

The 2014/15 International Audition tour holds auditions for all three of the RWB School professional training programs. The full-time Ballet Academic Program combines first rate academic education with the highest quality of dance training for students from grades 6 to 12. Prospective students also have two opportunities to audition at the graduate level: the RWB School Aspirant Program and the RWB School Teacher Training Program. The Aspirant Program is a two year full-time program that provides experienced dancers the opportunity to expand their repertoire, refine their technique and gain valuable performance experience to launch their professional career. The Teacher Training Program is a three year full-time program that offers the finest pedagogical, practical and interpersonal skills for a career as a dance educator.

RWB School graduates have been invited to join the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company and are sought out by top tier performing arts organizations. With its alumni having outstanding careers with world renowned companies – from Broadway to Cirque du Soleil to La La La Human Steps to New York City Ballet to Stuttgart Ballet – the RWB School has been producing some of the finest dancers and dance educators in the global arena for over four decades.

Those who audition have the opportunity to win a full tuition scholarship for the four week Summer Session taking place in July 2015. A proud supporter of the RWB, Investors Group awards a $2,000 scholarship to an aspiring dancer in every province and territory across Canada. The four week Summer Session serves as the second phase of the audition process for the full-time program.

Pre-registration is recommended and prospective students are encouraged to register now. All pre-registrations will be entered to win one of four custom designed bodysuits from Elevé Dancewear (elevedancewear.com). Pre-registrations are accepted in person, by email, or by post. The RWB School also accepts walk up auditions the day-of and auditions by DVD are also accepted.
