The Winnipeg dance community lost its matriarch, Rachel Browne, C.M., on Saturday, June 9th 2012. RWB extends its sincere sympathies to Rachel's family, friends, colleagues and students.
A person of grace, fortitude, creativity and vision, Rachel continued creating to her last days. After dancing with Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet from 1957 to 1961, Rachel founded Winnipeg's Contemporary Dancers, the oldest modern dance company in Canada. As WCD's artistic director for two decades and as an independent choreographer and teacher after leaving the company, Rachel was a pioneer of contemporary dance and dance training in the region and the country. She will be greatly missed.
Donations in Rachel Browne's memory can be made to Winnipeg's Contemporary Dancers: call Kathy Fenton at 452-0229 Ext. 223 or visit http://winnipegscontemporarydancers.ca/web4/support-wcd
