BALLET IN THE PARK RETURNS

Don’t miss RWB’s annual gift to Manitobans

(Winnipeg, Manitoba; July 10, 2008) – Manitoba Lotteries Corporation presents Ballet in the Park at Assiniboine Park’s Lyric Theatre from July 23 to July 25, with free performances starting at 7:30 pm nightly.

A summer tradition since the late 1970s, Ballet in the Park continuously attracts thousands of Manitobans along with summer tourists to the park to watch complimentary performances by the RWB School and Company. This year’s performance will feature the RWB’s principals performing the balcony scene from the much-loved classic Romeo & Juliet. Other works that will be performed at Ballet in the Park include Act 1 from Don Quixote and original works choreographed by senior students from the School’s Professional Division.

The RWB looks forward every year to the opportunity to recognize the wonderful support that we receive from our community by sharing these public performances of Ballet in the Park,” says RWB School Director Arlene Minkhorst. “This year’s event will showcase a diverse program of classical and contemporary works – an excellent example of the kind of work that takes place in our building throughout the year.”

Ballet in the Park is made possible by the generous support of the Manitoba Lotteries Corporation and through the Peter D. Curry Memorial Grant. Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet also acknowledges the support of Canadian Heritage, Canada Council, the Manitoba Arts Council, Arts Stabilization Manitoba and the Winnipeg Arts Council.

The Royal Winnipeg Ballet is an important part of the cultural mosaic in this city,” says Manitoba Lotteries President and CEO Winston Hodgins. “As a long standing supporter of the arts, Manitoba Lotteries is proud to be the Presenting Sponsor of this summer’s Ballet in the Park. We hope the series brings new audiences to the ballet as spectators can enjoy an exhilarating evening of dance.”

Cancellations due to bad weather will be made as close to the performance as possible and will be issued by local radio and television stations, as well as on the RWB website at www.rwb.org.
