RWB REACHES GOAL IN RECORD TIME
(October 9, 2007 – Winnipeg, Manitoba) – The RWB announced today that the Sustaining Applause Campaign in support of the RWB’s Creations Endowment Fund has reached its goal of $10 million. The Creations Endowment Fund will generate approximately $500,000 in annual income to support the creation of one new full-length ballet every three years, the development of shorter works and the refurbishment of current repertoires. Sustaining Applause, which was launched in March 2006, has been a national campaign and the response from Manitobans and donors from across the country has been nothing short of outstanding. Of the total amount raised, 79% came from Manitobans and 21% from outside the province.
“I would like to thank the entire Sustaining Applause Cabinet for their support throughout the Campaign,” states Kerry Hawkins, National Chair. “This group of hard working individuals has played a key role in making the RWB’s vision for the Creations Endowment Fund a reality.”
“This ballet company has been constantly evolving – as all living things do over the years,” says Kathleen M. Richardson, Honorary Co-Chair. “I’ve been there and watched it happen. Sometimes I’ve helped it happen… As I move into my second half-century of support, I do so believing the future has never been brighter.”
“I have watched Giselle in Scotland and Vancouver, Dracula in China and Montréal, The Sleeping Beauty in Texas and Halifax, and Nutcracker in Ottawa and Winnipeg. It is thrilling to experience the incredible impact our Company has on audiences throughout world. Now that the RWB has reached its Creations Endowment Fund goal, we can ensure that this continues,” explains Jean Giguère, Chair of the RWB Board of Directors.
“I would like to thank everyone who has been a part of the Campaign for their tremendous support,” says Judy Murphy, Chief Operating Officer. “The funds raised from this Campaign will generate income to ensure that we are able to produce many new works for years to come.”
The RWB would like to thank the Canadian Heritage Endowment Incentive Program, the Province of Manitoba and The Winnipeg Foundation for their support.
The RWB’s newest creation, Carmen, The Passion, choreographed by Mauricio Wainrot is set to have its world premiere next week. The production runs October 17 – 21 at the Manitoba Centennial Concert Hall. Performances start at 7:30pm Wednesday to Saturday with a Sunday matinee beginning at 2:00pm.
