Doreen Macdonald Award

Doreen Macdonald was a longtime Wardrobe Director at the RWB.  After she retired she continued her association as a member of the RWB Alumni Association and volunteered weekly in the RWB's administrative offices.  A provision in her will established this scholarship to be awarded annually to a student showing interest and talent in the field of design.

Awarded at First Steps in February 2010 to Connor Redpath

Millicent Rockwell Donnelly Bursary

Millicent Donnelly had a life-long love affair with dance.  She was an enthusiastic student of RWB founder Gweneth Lloyd and later held season tickets with her late sister, Audrey Rockwell.  In her will, Ms. Rockwell created a bursary that would recognize her sister's love of dance.

Paddy Stone Scholarship

Paddy Stone was one of the stars of the RWB from 1939 until 1946. This scholarship was established by his family to recognize his contribution to the RWB and the world of dance and awards students with a talent for choreography.

University Women's Club / Dr. Alice Cheatley Bursary

Awarded to a Level I to Level IV student based on talent, commitment and motivation.

Recipient: Anna Benko

David Peregrine Memorial Award

David Peregrine arrived at the RWB School in 1975 and had risen to the rank of Principal Dancer by the time of his death in 1989. This award was established by David Peregrine’s family in his memory and is given annually to a promising junior dancer.

Recipient: Brandon Lockhart

University Women's Club Performing Arts Bursary

This award is presented every year to a student studying in the performing arts who demonstrates talent, commitment and motivation.

Recipient: Anna Benko

Daimler-Chrysler Scholarship

Established by Daimler-Chrysler Canada, this scholarship is awarded to assist a talented student in their studies.

Recipient: Philippe-Alexandre Jacques

Jane McEvoy O'Donnell Scholarship

Jane McEvoy O'Donnell was a ballet lover who attended RWB performances regularly with her friends. A gift from her estate, with added donations from friends and family, was used to establish this scholarship in her memory.

Dr. Alice Cheatley Scholarship

Dr. Cheatley has made a tremendous contribution to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School over many years as a board member, enthusiastic fund-raiser and staunch supporter. Dr. Cheatley is the recipient of the Order of Canada for her life-long commitment to the community.

Kally Kennedy Memorial Scholarship

Kally Kennedy was a passionate supporter of the RWB and the RWB School and helped found our Creative Movement program. Her estate has provided for an annual scholarship to a deserving student or students in our Teacher Training Program.

Nijinski Dance Scholarship

This award was established in 1984 by Casimir Carter, a founding member and first secretary of the Winnipeg Ballet Club and dancer with the Company from 1939-43 and 1946-49. It is available to Manitoba students of Polish descent.

Recipient: Filip Kurlowicz

Odette & Odile Scholarship

This scholarship was established by a gift of the DeFehr Foundation. It is named after the principal characters in the great Russian classic, Swan Lake, in recognition of the pursuit of excellence undertaken by all students of ballet, and in honour of the DeFehr family's roots in Russia.

Juanita Y. Alexander Scholarship for Artistic Excellence

Juanita Alexander was a long time member and active supporter of the RWB Women's Committee and through them, of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. This scholarship was established in her memory by her family.

Investors Group Professional Division Summer Scholarships

Each year Investors Group generously provides up to 11 summer session scholarships, one in each province and territory.

Investors Group Professional Division Fall/Winter Scholarships

Investors Group also provides several scholarships each year which support talented students during their fall/winter studies at the RWB School.

Craig Music & Entertainment Scholarship

Given by Craig Broadcasting annually to support a student in their studies at the RWB School.

Esso Kids Award of Excellence Scholarship

This award provides support for a talented young artist in their pursuit of excellence in the art of dance.

Recipient: Peter Kurta

Endowment Award

This award derives from the RWB's Endowment Scholarship Fund to which many hundreds of individuals have made gifts.

Recipient: Kylie Duggan

Julia Arkos Memorial Award

Established by the RWB School in memory of Ms. Arkos' contributions to the School as a long-time teacher, this award is presented to a student who exemplifies the passion and talent of Ms. Arkos.

Recipient: Kira Hofmann

ANR Pipeline Scholarships

This scholarship goes to a talented student who has demonstrated an exceptional level of talent and commitment and who is originally from the Michigan or Wisconsin area.

Recipient: Alia Tahiri

Canadian Pacific Scholarship

The Canadian Pacific Scholarship is awarded annually to a Canadian student who has demonstrated an exceptional level of commitment to the art of ballet.

Recipient: Andrea Arsenault

Antonio Klockow Memorial Bursary

Antonio Klockow felt that his life had been greatly enriched because he had been able to study dance, something that was only possible for him because financial assistance was available. This bursary was established in his memory to ensure that other young artists may share his experience.

Recipient: Ryan Vetter

Royal Winnipeg Ballet Alumni Scholarship

Established and supported by the RWB Alumni Association, whose membership includes former dancers of the RWB Company. The scholarship was presented for the first time in 2008 and is now awarded annually.

Founder's Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the Board of Directors in memory of Gweneth Lloyd and Betty Hey Farrally, founders of the RWB.

Recipient: Georgia Richtscheid

Royal Bank of Canada Award

The Royal Bank of Canada Award is presented annually to students who have demonstrated an exceptional level of talent, commitment and achievement. The recipients must be Canadian, with a priority given to students from rural areas.

Recipients: Sarah Harris; Julia Jones-Whitehead; Li-Chia (Mimi) Ko; Brandon Lockhart; Zach Rogers; Katie Simpson

MacEwan Scholarship

Established in 2006, the Douglas and Elizabeth MacEwan Scholarship Fund provides up to five years of continuous financial support for a student or students of potentially great talent who need assistance in order to complete their dance education. The first scholarships were awarded in 2007.

Recipient: Alia Tahiri

Arnold Spohr Scholarship

Established by the Board of Directors to recognize Mr. Spohr's many years with the RWB and the influence and inspiration he has given and continues to give. It is presented to two students annually.

Recipients: Natalia Perkovic and Zach Rogers

Prince Edward Award

The Province of Manitoba established this award in 1991 to commemorate the visit of His Royal Highness Prince Edward to Manitoba. This prestigious award is given annually to one male and one female student who have demonstrated an exceptional level of talent, commitment and achievement and who are entering Levels V, VI or VII.
