As we look forward to the next month, we are preparing for our Adult student performance, Steppin’ Out as well as Cecchetti Ballet exams.  IDance is taking place at the beginning of the month and Festival choreography is well underway.

We would also like to take this opportunity to formally welcome Rachel Cooper to the RWB School.  Rachel Cooper has taken over Laurie Alston’s classes and choreography for the remainder of the year.  Ms Cooper is not only an RD alumni, she is also a graduate of the Senior Professional Program at the School of Contemporary Dancers.  She has a BA in dance as well as a Bachelor of Education from the University of Winnipeg. She is also the director of the dance program at Maples Collegiate.

Rachel Cooper has taught at various studios within the city of Winnipeg and has entered many pieces of choreography in the Manitoba Dance Festival.  Her pieces have been awarded the Adjudicator’s Choice Award in hip hop, jazz and lyrical jazz.  Please feel free to view her biography in the atrium or online. We hope that everyone will make Ms Cooper feel welcome again after so many years away.

Choreographic Careers take flight – February 14-17

Catch a glimpse of the choreographers of the future at First Steps from February 14 to 17 in studio 116. This dynamic choreographic competition has been entrancing Winnipeg audiences since 1990. The week-long competition and closing Gala grew out of a desire on the part of RWB School students for an opportunity to express themselves through their own work.

RD students are encouraged to attend First Steps performances outside of their regular class times. Absences from attending First Steps will not be considered excused absences.

The Annual Recital for RWB School Adult Students  - March 3-4

Steppin’ Out is a fun-filled performance featuring the RWB School adult students. Come experience toe-tapping music and entertaining spectacles from one of the largest adult dance programs in the country! 
March 3 at 7:30 pm March 4 at 2:00pm & 7:30pm 

Tickets are $12 each. Adult students performing in Steppin’ Out may purchase up to 4 tickets each starting on February 6 through the RWB Box Office. As of February 20, ticket sales will be open to the public. Steppin’ Out DVD will be available for ordering through the School Office from Feb. 1 – March 12.

At the RWB we are already thinking summery thoughts! Summer dance camps like the Dance Intensive are essential for dancers to keep in shape and progress to their full potential. These programs are also wonderful opportunities to have fun, meet new friends, and gain valuable experiences. Intensive is a unique program that includes classes in ballet, pointe (at the discretion of the teacher), modern, character, Spanish, and jazz. It also includes classes in body conditioning, creative movement, movement improvisation, music, dance history and art. A minimum of 2 years of ballet training is required. This two week program will be led by talented teaching staff from both Professional and Recreational Divisions, along with guest teachers Renee Salsiccioli and former RWB Company Soloist Chelsey Lindsay.

The RWB School is pleased to offer all current Recreational Division students an early bird registration discount. The RD discount will be available until April 1.
