The Manitoba Branch of the Cecchetti Society of Canada will be presenting a workshop over the weekend of January 18-20, 2013. Unset ballet classes will be available for Grades and Standards 1-6 through Majors levels. Syllabus classes will be available at the Intermediate and Advanced 2 level.
Conducting ballet classes throughout the weekend will be Cecchetti Society of Canada examiner, Jane Wooding of Toronto, Ontario and Royal Winnipeg Ballet School Teacher Training Program Director, Johanne Gingras.
The Manitoba committee is proud to offer supplementary classes for students throughout the weekend. Classical Mime classes will be available for Grades and Standards 1-6, taught by Johanne Gingras. Majors students will have the opportunity to participate in a modern class taught by Rachael McLaren, of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

Students are to wear their ballet attire to all Ballet and Classical Mime classes.
Intermediate and Advanced 2 students should have pointe shoes for syllabus classes.
Bare feet are recommended for Modern class. Black tights are permitted.
Registration for the Modern class includes the Q&A session.
Deadline for students to Pre-register through the RWB School Office is Saturday, December 15, 2012.
RWB School office will accept payment in person by cash, credit or debit. Registration over the phone will be accepted by credit card only.
Students may be able to register in person the day of the workshop space permitting, in Cash Only.

Jane Wooding, Fellow & Examiner, CSC -CICB
Jane Wooding started her ballet training in Ottawa with Jacqueta Northcote. Entering Canada’s National Ballet School, she studied with Betty Oliphant, Nancy Kilgour, Daniel Seillier, and Grant Strate. After graduation, Jane continued her training in England, Holland and Germany.
Ms. Wooding danced with the National Ballet of Canada, performing Romantic, Classical and Contemporary repertoire from 1972 – 78. This allowed her to work with exceptional mentors including Mikhail Baryshnikov, Erik Bruhn, Celia Franca, Karen Kain, Rudolf Nureyev, and Veronica Tennant. Jane then joined Canada’s National Ballet School staff teaching ballet, repertoire, pointe work and pedagogy for 8 years.
Presently teaching for Canada’s National Ballet School in the Teacher Training Program, and for George Brown Dance/Ballet Jorgen Canada, Jane has also taught ballet on the faculties of York University and the Quinte Ballet School of Canada. She examines annually for the Cecchetti Society of Canada. Guest work includes summer courses, classes and workshops across Canada.
Johanne Gingras, LCSC-CICB
Teacher Training Program Director of Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet School
Born in Quebec, Johanne Gingras has established herself as an artistic force in Canada and abroad. Ms Gingras is a graduate of the National Ballet School teacher Training Program and most recently was awarded a Licentiate (CSC-CICB) teaching designation with the Cecchetti Society.
Ms Gingras began her performing career in her hometown in Chicoutimi, Québec with a company performing all over the province. She performed in many Operas and most recently with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company in Romeo and Juliet.
Ms Gingras held the position of Artistic Director and Choreographer for the Sokol Polish Folk Ensemble and has adjudicated many festivals and competitions across Canada. As a choreographer, she has created numerous pieces for the RWB School, Professional Division. She participated in Fast Forward, an evening of new choreography presented by the RWB Company, and choreographed for the Manitoba Opera’s productions of La Traviata, Hansel and Gretel and The Magic Flute.
Joining the RWB School in 1984, Ms Gingras was instrumental in developing the Teachers Training Program curriculum, and was name Director of the program in 1997. For over 25 years Ms Gingras has been committed to developing and maintaining a high standard of excellence in the art of dance.
Ms Gingras guest teaches internationally in Japan, United States, and South Africa and across Canada.
RACHAEL MCLAREN began her formal dance training at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School. After graduating high school, Ms. McLaren joined the Toronto cast of Mamma Mia! from 2003-2005. In keeping with her love for theater, she worked on several children’s theater shows with KOBA entertainment, serving as dance captain and host. She then moved to New York to study at The Ailey School and was awarded a full scholarship. She joined the Francesca Harper Project for its world premiere of MODO FUSION in the 92nd St Y Harkness Dance Festival. She also appeared as a guest artist with Armitage Gone! Dance for its world premiere of In This Dream That Dogs Me. In 2006, Nilas Martins selected Ms Mclaren to appear as a guest artist in Puccini Passion!, an evening celebrating Giacomo Puccini at the Dicapo Opera Theater. Upon finishing her second semester as a fellowship student in the Ailey School, she was hand-picked by Sylvia Waters and Troy Powell to join Ailey II, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's junior company. Other notable works she has performed include Ohad Naharin’s Minus 16, Jiri Kylian’s Petite Mort, Camille A Brown’s The Evolution of a Secured Feminine, Hans Van Manen’s Songs Without Words, Polish Pieces, Nacho Duato’s Na Floresta, and Mauro Bigonzetti’sFesta Barocca. Rachael has been a member of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater since 2008.
