Dear Parents and Students,
My name is Kate Fennell (Hodgert) and I am the new School Director of Operations with Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet. I have had the pleasure of meeting a number of you, first as the RWB’s Publicity Manager and most recently as the company’s Director of Business Development.
My professional involvement with the Canadian arts and culture sector spans more than a decade and reflects a broad range of interests and practice. In 2003, I graduated with distinction from Queen’s University with an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Drama and Film Studies and in 2006 I received a Master of Arts degree from the University of Toronto’s Graduate Centre for the Study of Drama. Prior to moving to Winnipeg in June of 2010, I was the Associate Producer for an internationally-renowned Toronto-based theatre company.
Over the last year and half, I have been fortunate to be able to attend a number of School performances and events, take School classes and volunteer in the School Residence. During this time, I have developed a deep appreciation for the School’s dedicated faculty of teachers and a sincere desire to see the talented young dancers in the Recreational Division grow and thrive. Needless to say, I am extremely grateful for this opportunity and I look forward to getting to know you and your children better over the coming weeks and months.
Great art is not possible without great artists. The RWB School’s commitment to raising the next generation of great dance artists and dance educators is a source of extreme pride for all Canadians and one I admire a great deal. I am extremely proud to be a part of this important work.
