Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome and welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful summer. As we prepare to start the new School year, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Carrie Broda, Cherly Scott and Debra Thiessen to our artistic faculty. Please take a moment to review their bios in the 2nd floor atrium in the coming weeks. I would also like to welcome Stacha Penner who will be teaching in our Satellite Program. More exciting artistic faculty announcements are just around the corner so stay tuned!
Over the next few weeks we ask for your patience while our artistic faculty assess all students to ensure they are registered in the appropriate classes. Recommended class changes will be communicated to you before October 1, 2013. Please remember that October 1, 2013 is the deadline for all class changes without an added fee as well as all withdrawals for refund
I’d also like to welcome all new students to the RWB School! Please identify yourself as a new student to your teacher on the first day of classes so they know to pay careful attention to your abilities and ensure that you have been placed in the correct level. Please don’t hesitate to ask your teachers any questions you may have. The School Office is also equipped to answer any questions. If you are a girl 12 years of age or older who is interested in taking pointe, please speak to your ballet teacher.
We are so glad you have joined us for the exciting year ahead and we look forward to seeing you at our great events throughout the year such as DANCE DOWNTOWN on September 29th!
Interim Recreational Division Principal
These days it is so important that dancers be as well rounded as possible. The expectations in dance for those who want to seriously pursue the artform have risen far above what they have been in the past. New styles of dance have emerged and dancers are expected to be able to adapt quickly. Therefore, we strongly encourage your child to register in more than one class.
Students who are interested in pursuing ballet examinations in Levels 1 and up must be registered in a minimum of two classes of the same level and discipline per week, with a strong recommendation of three classes per week. We recommend that any student who aspires to dance on pointe in the future register in two ballet classes per week.
All dance forms inform one another and we strongly encourage that students receive the most well rounded training as possible. Students may add additional classes to their schedule up until October 1, 2013.
Recreational Division students Daniel Borrett, Julianne Chartier, Abby Harris, Miguel Sauvey, Karissa Bowden were accepted into the RWB School’s Professional Division Ballet Academic Program and Morgan Wiebe and Sarah Taylor were accepted into the Teacher Training Program. Congratulations to all!
Noah Lewis played a wonderfully convincing Michael Banks in Rainbow Stage’s production of Mary Poppins .
Omar Benson received a Gold Award for his performances in July during Talent Inc. Canada National Conference. He performed a musical theatre piece "Adolpho" choreographed by Keri-lee Smith.
This summer artistic faculty member Kristina Washchyshyn was wonderfully busy! She had the opportunity to travel to Ukraine with a group of Ukrainian dance teachers, dancers and choreographers from across the province. They studied with several companies and schools including Virsky in Kyiv and Prolisok in Kirovokhrad, learning more about what makes Ukrainian dance in central and eastern Ukraine different from other regions. Recreational Division student Emilia Radawetz joined Ms Kirstina on the trip.
Ms Kristina also took the senior class from Sopilka Ukrainian dance school, which she is Director of, to Dauphin to participate in the Ameteur talent competition. Recreational Division students Megan Fry, Paula Pidsadny, Emilia Radawetz, Mackenzie Klotz and Francesca Gibson are part of this class. Of five dances performed, five gold medals were awarded to Ms Kristina’s group along with the title of best group over all. This gives them the unique and exciting opportunity to dance as a group on the grandstand at the Ukrainian Festival next summer. RD Student Emilia Radawetz won last year and did a beautiful job gracing the stage in a solo this year. Recreational Division students Anna Radawetz and Zenya Veryha also participated in this festival and walked away with a 94% gold.
