Student Life

Founded in 1970 by celebrated teacher and former RWB Company Principal Dancer David Moroni, C.M., the RWB School Professional Division offers classical ballet training based on the Russian system and supported with a full program of study in complementary dance forms. This results in versatile dancers and dance teachers with the ability to find meaningful employment in their profession. The rest is history, as witnessed by the long list of Ballet Academic, Aspirant and Teacher Training Program alumni who have gone on to perform, choreograph and teach dance in Canada and around the world.

RWB Residence

Located in historic downtown Winnipeg, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School enjoys a state-of-the-art facility designed and built specifically for dance, with 12 spacious, sprung-floor studios, including a 150-seat performance space.

Students are invited to Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company open rehearsals and may observe the Company in class and rehearsal throughout the day from a third floor observatory.

The Royal Winnipeg Ballet School Residence is a safe, supportive environment for young artists as they pursue their goals in dance. It provides permanent housing during the school year for up to 70 students and is linked directly to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Studios to ensure convenient access. Medical support is provided by a talented team of professionals and overseen by Dr. Brian Lukie, M.D., a physician specializing in dance and sport medicine. Physiotherapy and massage services are available on site and a Nutrition Consultant (RD), Performance Enhancement Consultant and Student Care Counsellor are available to support and counsel students one-on-one.

“Residence is a great bonding experience where you build life long friendships. A great learning experience, teaches responsibility and independence.” - Student in Residence
