Accomplished dancer showcases new work in On The Edge, May 29 + 30

Winnipeg, MB (May 19, 2015) – Recently celebrated for delivering “fantastically energetic dance numbers” (Joff Schmidt, CBC) with the cast of Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre’s Cabaret and well-known for his cross-genre talents in musical theatre, dance and film, Brett Taylor premieres a new work featuring students of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, May 29 and 30 at the RWB’s Founders’ Studio. Featuring the music of American indie-folk band Beirut, Taylor’s joyful contemporary ballet creation Bus Stop Suite is one of seven pieces presented in On The Edge, a showcase of new and existing repertoire performed by the exceptional students of the RWB School Aspirant Program.

On The Edge features young emerging artists both as dancers and as choreographers. The energy within this show is very exciting to watch. These dancers are really starting to gain momentum in their career and there is a certain effervescence because of this,” says RWB School Aspirant Program Director, Stéphane Léonard.

In addition, Springscape, originally created for American Ballet Theatre’s Studio Company by international choreographer Peter Quanz, makes its RWB School debut. Following Quanz’ work, up-and-coming choreographer Philippe-Alexandre Jacques restages his piece x years for the second time. Presented at David Suzuki’s Blue Dot Tour stop in Winnipeg in 2014, Jacques work features an all-female cast and is inspired by the impact nature has on humanity.

Two additional new works make their premiere at On The Edge: Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company dancer and choreographer, Yosuke Mino translates knowledge acquired from his 13-year ballet career into a breathtaking new creation and First Steps award-winning choreographer Philippe Larouche premieres a fast-paced, contemporary ballet work.

Two classical works combine rounding out the On The Edge program. Danced to the music of Ludwig Minkus, Don Quita brilliantly merges two of the best-known ballet classics, Don Quixote and Paquita.
