Mark your calendars for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet summer tradition and the kick-off of RWB’s 75th anniversary season! Presented by Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries, Ballet in the Park will take place from July 23 - 25 at the Assiniboine Park Lyric Theatre, beginning at 7:30 pm nightly. Ballet in the Park brings thousands of Manitobans and tourists together to the free performances in Assiniboine Park. A tradition since the early 1970’s, the family-friendly event attracts more than 20,000 people annually. For those who haven’t seen ballet, this is a great introduction to the art!

The 2014 Ballet in the Park programme features a diverse mix of RWB Company and School performances. The RWB Company will be performing internationally acclaimed choreographer James Kudelka’s The Four Seasons.Hailed by critics as a “modern masterpiece” and danced to Vivaldi’s four violin concertos, The Four Seasons had its Winnipeg premiere in Mixed Programme, which concluded the RWB’s 74th season. The work explores the passage of time with the innocence of spring, the passion of summer, the calmness of autumn, and life’s culmination in winter. A stunning and mature work, this is a story of youth, discovery and living life to the fullest.

Ballet in the Park will also include a performance by the RWB School Professional Division, which will feature excerpts from one of the best-known classical ballets of all time, Swan Lake. Audience members will also be treated to a hip hop performance by RWB School Recreational Division students.

Those who want to learn a little more about ballet can look forward to a lecture demonstration featuring a lucky audience member, lead by RWB School Director Arlene Minkhorst.
