Spotlight is the culmination of the work these dancers put in each year. Taking what for some is their first stop onto the stage, 80 young artists from across Canada and around the world promise to give audiences of all ages and tastes something to rave about!

Thursday, May 24 - 7:30 pm
Friday, May 25 - 7:30 pm
Saturday, May 26 - 2:00 pm
Saturday, May 26 - 7:30 pm

Dr. Coppélius, a lonely and eccentric toymaker, has fashioned a beautiful life-size doll, Coppélia, who obeys his every command. As she sits placidly on the balcony, she catches the eye of young Franz, who is immediately smitten, much to the displeasure of his fiancé, Swanhilda.

Though it first premiered in 1870, it has been argued that this comedy of mistaken identity, based on stories by E.T.A. Hoffmann, is the first “feminist” ballet.

The real heroine of this lively, classical ballet, is not the compliant Coppélia, but the feisty Swanhilda. Vexed by her fiancé’s wandering eye, Swanhilda quickly takes control of the plot, outwitting both Dr. Coppélius and her fickle fiancé. Comic chaos ensues!

Tickets are available through the RWB Customer Service Office at 380 Graham Avenue, online or by calling 204.956.2792 or 1.800.667.4792 (toll free).

  • We ask parents to please ensure their child(ren) are using the stairs whenever possible, and that they are not using the elevator unnecessarily. We have been informed of many instances of children playing in the elevator and for their safety and that of others, we ask that this not continue.
  • Please refrain from using the automated accessibility button located at the entries to the RWB building unless you require its use.
  • • We ask that students who are sick stay home to rest. This will provide their bodies the opportunity to heal and will eliminate the spread of illness to their classmates. Students recovering from injury are encouraged to observe their classes and participate to the best of their ability. Speak to your child’s teacher about how best to manage their injury
  • All belongings should be locked in lockers to avoid theft. The RWB School cannot be responsible for lost or stolen articles. Items left in public areas (i.e., outside of studios or in waiting areas) will be removed and placed in our school office until their owner returns to retrieve them. We ask that any incidences of vandalism or theft be reported to the School Office so that we can work to ensure a safe and positive environment for all.
  • Please refrain from idling vehicles in the drive-thru when waiting for children.
