NEARLY 200 YOUNG CANADIAN DANCERS SETTLE INTO DOWNTOWN WINNIPEG FOR JULY
Canada’s next generation of top professional dancers receive scholarships
While summer means time outside for most adolescents, hundreds of dance students at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet (RWB) School will be swapping the sun for time in the studio from July 2-27 during Summer Session. Of these students, ten were awarded the coveted IG Wealth Management Summer Session Scholarship to help pursue a career in dance, following the student’s successful audition in the RWB School Professional Division’s 16-city 2018/19 Audition Tour.
“The Summer Session at Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet School has been, for generations, a springboard that has launched students into professional careers in dance. The talents that are discovered through the generous support of IG Wealth Management Summer Session Scholarships are a sign of our healthy society where artists can flourish when they are given a chance,” says RWB School Director Stéphane Léonard. “All recipients of the IG Wealth Management Summer Session Scholarships exemplify the outstanding potential the future generation of professional dancers hold. These scholarships play an integral role in many dance students’ promising futures and I sincerely thank IG Wealth Management’s support.”
A proud ally of the RWB, IG Wealth Management provides a $2,000 scholarship to one aspiring dancer in every province across Canada. The scholarships enable recipients to attend the second phase of the audition process, four weeks of training at the RWB School, and a chance to earn a place in the full-time Professional Division program in Winnipeg.
“These scholarships provide aspiring dancers from across Canada the opportunity to further their dream by training with some of the country’s most gifted instructors,” says Trevor Krahn, IG Wealth Management Director of Sponsorship & Community Engagement. “Investors Group is proud to support the world-renowned Royal Winnipeg Ballet in ways that promote individual achievement and confidence for young people.”
In RWB School’s Professional Division Summer Session, students complete intensive work in ballet and pointe technique and, depending on their level, pas de deux and variations. In addition to classical training, students receive a comprehensive education in character dance and modern dance. The curriculum is augmented by classes in historical dance, conditioning, music, repertoire, Spanish dance, improvisation, choreography, visual art, dance history, creative movement, nutrition, performance enhancement, and strength-training for male students.
The RWB School Professional Division congratulates the 2019 IG Wealth Management National Scholarships recipients and graciously thanks IG Wealth Management for their ongoing support.
