November 1 Daylight Savings Ends
November 8 – 14 Fall Break – no RD classes

The below information was emailed to all RWB School families on Thursday, November 5, 2020:As we announced in June 2019, Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet is actively exploring the next signifi-cant development to our renowned centre for dance excellence in historic downtown Winnipeg: a new state-of-the-art student housing facility next door to the RWB studios on top of the RWB Parkade. While we’re not at liberty to share all of the details just yet, we want to let you know of a few changes you can expect starting next week.
Effective November 9, 2020, all RWB casual parking will be redirected to the Medical Arts Parkade at 236 Edmonton Street, across from the RWB Parkade.

After 4:00 pm Monday-Friday & on the weekends:

The Medical Arts Parkade will honor the RWB parking flat fee of $2.00 for casual parkers. To access this discounted rate in the Medical Arts Parkade, casual parkers will take the same steps they do when parking in the RWB Parkade including selecting “RWB Special Rate” when prompted at the machine and punching in the parking code 7890. Please remember that this special code is for RWB School parents and students only and should not be shared with others; thank you for your cooperation.

Daytime Monday-Friday:

Casual parkers will be required to pay the Medical Arts Parkade’s standard rates of $4.00/hour or $15.00/day. It is expected that this parking arrangement will be required for approximately one year. This important addition to the RWB campus will serve as a new home-away-from-home for students in the RWB School Professional Division and an expansion of the illustrious RWB studios for all our dancers. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding and assure you that this exciting development will be well worth the inconvenience.

Please ensure that your payment and credit card information is up to date with our school office. We ask that you notify us if your credit card number or expiry date change in order to avoid NSF charges or missed payments.

Parents are required to inform the school office at of any injury that restricts or prevents a child’s participation in dance classes. We will then inform the child’s teacher of any adjustments that need to be made for the child throughout the class. If the injury is severe enough that the child is not able to participate in any way, we ask that the child audits the class. If the child is seeking physiotherapy or other treatment it would be helpful if the parent could ask for a detailed description of the injury and any restrictions that are required from the physiotherapist or doctor.

The RWB School is pleased to be offering jazz and tap exams in the ADAPT Syllabus for select levels. The decision to invite a student to participate in examinations are made by the student’s teacher and will be based on their progress, attendance, and focus. Invitations will be sent out in the coming weeks. The exams will be over the winter months and in preparation, a maximum of six exam rehearsals will be scheduled during the month prior.

Upon completion of an examination, the student will receive a certificate and detailed report from the ADAPT organization. Please be aware that these examinations are NOT mandatory to advance to the next RWB School level. For more information please speak to your child’s jazz and/or tap teacher.

The School Office would also like to remind any students who have not submitted their Manitoba Health numbers and any other pertinent information to do so as soon as possible.

Some of the Steps We are Taking to Keep the RWB Safe

  • Masks are required in all common areas of the RWB building.
  • Students and teachers must wash their hand with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds, or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer before and after class.
  • Students will be physically distanced 2M from one another while in our studios. We have marked the floors of our studios to ensure this is clear and easy to follow.
  • Students and teachers will be required to practice physical distancing measures while in the building and studios.
  • No access to changerooms or lockers; students are to arrive dressed for class.
  • Limit the number of personal belongings to be brought into the building.
  • We will be limiting access to parents and visitors in the building.
  • Studios will be cleaned and sanitized frequently and between groups.
  • All students, parents, staff, and guests are required to wear facemasks in our common areas
  • We recommend that all students in academic grades 4 (RWB Level 2) and higher wear a mask in the studio while dancing
  • Teachers are required to wear masks while teaching
  • One-way traffic pathways have been established between the main floor and the atrium.

Please ensure you review our full re-entry plan document emailed to all students/families and watch this short video outlining our protocols.

To reduce the number of people in our building, our doors will remain locked. To gain access to our building, students, parents, and staff will be given access cards. Individuals will present their access card to a member of our reception team through the window in the vestibule of the south building entrance (drive through) and they will be buzzed in. It will be important to ensure you have your access card with you when wishing to enter our building so our staff can identify you and/or your child easily. Please watch for an email from our school office regarding how Access Cards will be distributed. For students registered for RWB Level 1 and lower (approximately ages 3-8 years old) can be accompanied in the building and to their classroom by 1 adult chaperone. At this time, we are limiting access to1 adult per family, and ask that siblings remain at home; babes in arms will be permitted.

Students in RWB Level 2 and higher are asked to enter the building without an adult chaperone. RWB representatives met students in RWB levels 2-4 on the main floor upon entry to the building to show them how to find their classroom during the first three weeks of class. Following the completion of their class, students have been led to the Graham Avenue doors for pick up. Parents/Guardians are required to be waiting outside the Graham avenue doors within 5 min of the completion of their child’s class. Going forward, students registered in RWB Level 2 only will be escorted from the main floor to their studio and brought down following their class. Students in RWB Level 3 and 4 will go directly to their studio upon entry and make their way to the lobby following their class(es) on their own; RWB Staff will continue to be available to assist students when required.

Students in RWB Level 5A and higher are asked to enter the building without an adult chaperone. Students in RWB Levels 4 and lower can be accompanied in the building and to their classroom by 1 adult chaperone. As space is limited in our waiting area, we ask that whenever possible chaperones exit the building and return for the conclusion of their child’s class. At this time, we are limiting access to 1 adult per family, and ask that siblings remain at home; babes in arms will be permitted.

To help stop the spread of COVID-19 and keep the RWB School a safe environment for our students, staff, and families, individuals who are experiencing symptoms of illness (even mild symptoms) are not permitted in our building. While it may be the case that you are not well enough to dance with us in the studios, you or your child may still wish to participate in or audit your/their regular class. For the 2020-21 season, all our studios have been outfitted with technology to allow for distance learning; this means that you and/or your child will not miss valuable instruction. We will be sending out links for all classes so that students will have access to their classes even if they are unable to attend in person. Here are the steps to take if you or your child are unwell and will be taking class from home:

  1. Call the RWB School Office at 204-957-3467 to let us know that you or your child will not be attending class.
  2. If you/your child are feeling well enough to participate in the class from home, please let our School Office staff know so they can let your teacher know to expect you/your child to be learning online.
  3. Follow the links and prompts that we will be sending out prior to the beginning of classes approximately 5 minutes before the class start time and ensure that you have read our distance learning instructions and etiquette reminders (attached to the email).
  4. Enjoy your dance class, from the comfort and safety of your home!

***Please note that we will not be permitting students to make up missed classes during the 2020-21 season***

During the 2020-21 season, we will be enforcing various protocols for building entry (as explained above) for students based on their age. To ensure the safety of our students, we ask that you please contact the School Office by telephone 204-957-3467or by email if your child will be absent from class.
