Campus & Facilities
The Royal Winnipeg Ballet Studios are home to both the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School.
The RWB School campus is located just steps from Winnipeg’s famed Portage Avenue, in the newly coined Sports and Entertainment District. At the centre of the campus is the RWB building, a state-of-the-art, four-storey facility designed and built specifically for dance with 10 spacious, sprung-floor studios and a 220-seat performance space.
The building also houses 10 change rooms with showers, two of which are exclusively for Professional Division student use. Our students also enjoy their own dressing rooms, complete with lockers, showers, and a comfortable student lounge. Students are invited to observe the world-renowned Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company in class and rehearsal throughout the day from a third-floor observatory. The third floor is also home to our wardrobe department, shoe room, and Medical Support Team clinic
Medical Support Team
The Medical Support Team at the RWB School provides health care services and works collaboratively to promote student health and well-being.
In addition to in-house health care services, the Team may consult with and/or refer students to other health care professionals.
The RWB School is committed to providing quality dance education in a positive, healthy, and respectful environment. We work in service of creating safe spaces where individual abilities are celebrated and nurtured, and every student feels valued and supported. We have Healthy Dancer and Open Communication Policies that allow the adults in the different areas of our students’ lives – dance, Residence, home, academics, medical, etc. – to share information and provide support as a team, keeping in mind privacy considerations. Our work in this area is governed by our Child Protection Manual; this document has been carefully crafted with input from the Canadian Centre for Child Protection and leading child psychologists. Child safety is of paramount importance to the RWB and regular reviews and updates of our policies and procedures, as well as comprehensive education and training, continues to be a priority.
The RWB School Residence is a safe, supportive environment for young artists as they pursue their goals in dance. Living in residence provides students with independence while maintaining a healthy routine.
The Residence provides permanent housing during the school year for up to 60 students and is linked directly to the RWB studios to ensure convenient access. 24-hour supervision and assistance as well as a range of security policies, procedures, and protocols ensure the best in care for the young artists living there.
It offers comfortable single, double, and quadruple rooms. Each of our student floors includes a common area, storage space, and laundry facility. The main floor features a communal dining room, lounge, study hall, and landscaped courtyard/outdoor space, as well as two dance studios earmarked for resident use. Students are expected to keep their rooms tidy, including doing their own laundry.
The Residence also has a kitchen where our Head Chef and food service team prepare nutritious meals with input from our Registered Dietician who consults on the creation of monthly menus.
For students in grades six to nine there is a dedicated study hour from Monday to Saturday, with support from the residence team, to ensure they stay on top of their academics. Sunday is dedicated to rest and activities outside of dance. These are organized by the RWB or by student request and often include trips to the mall, visiting a park or going to the movies.
“Living on campus is a great bonding experience where you build life long friendships. A great learning experience, teaches responsibility and independence.” - RWB Professional Division Student
