with Highlights from Laurencia
Enjoy highlights from Laurencia in the performance’s first act, a ballet praised for its mixture of classical and bold character dance, its dramatic and realistic interpretations, beautiful sets and costumes and the triumphant finale. These excerpts were recently re-staged by dance luminary Anna-Marie Holmes.
“Our production will feature many of the characters from the full length but will mainly focus on the romantic, tender and loving aspect of the plot. We chose the best dancing scenes and carefully assembled them together in a mosaic of unique, distinguished and vibrant, colourful style.”
- School Director, Stéphane Léonard
The second act “Forces of Nature” aims to celebrate the beauty of our planet while tackling the concerning issue of climate change. Our three female choreographers collaborated to create a work with elements that both blend and clash with each other, not unlike humans and the planet. Creating this work required great sensitivity and emotional intelligence, and we sincerely thank and congratulate School Resident Choreographer Gabriela Rehak (Earth), School artistic faculty member Nicole Coppens (Forest) and Aspirant Maggie Weatherdon (Water) for their creativity and vision.
Spotlight showcases the deepening of the Professional Divisions students’ artistry, the breadth of talent nurtured at the RWB School, and these young artists’ passion for the beauty of dance in their annual year-end performance.
