THE ROYAL WINNIPEG BALLET IS SEEKING A FULL-TIME DANCE TEACHER TO JOIN OUR TEAM

SUMMARY STATEMENT

The full-time Dance Teacher specializes in jazz and/or a combination of jazz, contemporary, tap, hip hop, and musical theatre, and is responsible for the consistent instruction of dance classes, choreography, and rehearsals for performances of several levels and age groups. This position oversees programming and project teams and works with the Recreational Division Principal to develop and implement curriculum. The full-time Dance Teacher participates as a member of the Artistic Faculty and is familiar with and conducts themselves in accordance with the strategic and business plan objectives of the RWB School.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ARTISTIC

  • Teach classes during Regular and Summer Sessions
  • Prepare choreography for festivals, competitions, recitals, and conduct rehearsals
  • Work collaboratively with the Recreational Division Principal to develop and implement curriculums in jazz and/or a combination of jazz, contemporary, tap, hip hop and musical theatre
  • Aid to ensure artistic standards are being met
  • Arrange and lead pedagogical meetings and work-groups
  • Attend workshops and conventions and stay abreast of changes in the field
  • Participate in the audition, interview, and casting process
  • Prepare students for exams as required
  • Conduct classes with utmost professionalism
  • Begin and end classes at their scheduled times
  • Attend RWB Company and School performances
  • Act as supervisor in the absence of the Recreational Division Principal or Vice-Principal

ADMINISTRATIVE

  • Coordinate performances and events, including managing critical paths and to-do lists, and ensure deadlines are met
  • Coordinate the Teaching Assistant Program
  • Prepare report cards, student assessment forms, and letters of reference as required
  • Ensure appropriate, positive, and fair evaluations are given to students
  • Participate and contribute to short term and long-range planning sessions
  • Participate in the annual registration exercise including planning, execution, and after-action review
  • Attend all applicable meetings

COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIPS

  • Maintain open and honest communication with the Recreational Division Principal
  • Act as liaison between the Recreational Division Principal and the Artistic Faculty
  • Build and maintain positive and productive relationships with parents, students, and staff
  • Forward concerns directly to the Recreational Division Principal
  • Maximize communication opportunities with parents/li>
  • Maximize communication opportunities with teaching staff colleagues to ensure consistency of the material being taught

OTHER DUTIES

  • Ensure all communications and actions support, protect and nurture the brand of the RWB School
  • Ensure all written correspondence with parents is approved by the Recreational Division Principal
  • Other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS

The full-time Dance Teacher works in a studio setting interacting with, observing, and supporting students. This position works afternoons, evenings and weekends teaching 18-25 hours per week. This position also works with standard office equipment and sits for periods of time performing keyboarding activities. Success of this position requires ongoing communication with internal and external stakeholders, flexibility with shifting priorities, and timely decision making.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum five years experience as a dance teacher and/or dancer
  • Experience choreographing for festivals, competitions, and recitals
  • Background in in jazz and/or a combination of jazz, contemporary, tap, hip hop, and musical theatre
  • Ability to teach several levels and age groups
  • Classical ballet training an asset
  • Experience teaching boys/men an asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Excel and Word an asset
  • Ability to speak and write French and/or other languages an asset
  • Clear Criminal Record Check
  • Clear Child Abuse Registry Check
