THE ROYAL WINNIPEG BALLET IS SEEKING A FULL-TIME RESIDENCE ADVISOR TO JOIN OUR TEAM

SUMMARY STATEMENT

Full-time Residence Advisors are responsible for providing a safe, healthy and supportive environment for student borders ages 11-18 during days, evenings and weekends, with an occasional overnight shift. Full-time Residence Advisors work closely as a team to support and enhance all aspects of student life and programming, and to actively supervise boarding students at all times, as well as other school students during select activities and events.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide supervision and care to students
  • Act as a role model for students
  • Support meaningful inclusion and active participation of all individuals within the community
  • Facilitate individual and group check-ins to ensure students’ optimal safety and well being
  • Facilitate information sharing with co-workers, Head Residence Advisor and Professional Division Principal as appropriate
  • Assist in all aspects of residential care for students, ensure completion of chores, homework, and other required undertakings
  • Plan and execute activities and events
  • Implement systems and routines and for students
  • Drive and walk students to and from academic school, appointments, activities and events
  • Forward concerns raised by students and their parents/guardians as appropriate
  • Provide approved discipline to students and ensure follow through
  • Respond to crisis situations and assist with Crisis Response and Management as required
  • Provide language support for students whose first language is not English, including formal English as an Additional Language instruction and translation services when possible
  • Actively participate in meetings as requested by Residence and School leadership
  • General administration such as record keeping and note taking
  • Perform cleaning and facility-related duties such as moving furniture, particularly during scheduled cleaning weeks
  • Other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS

Residence Advisors work in a residence setting interacting, observing and supporting students, and must be ready to respond to a multitude of situations with varying degrees of concern. This position requires ongoing communication with internal and external stakeholders, flexibility with changing/shifting priorities and timely decision making. Residence Advisors utilize general office equipment, industrial cleaning supplies and require the ability to lift/move heavy items weighing up to 22 KG (50lbs) such as furniture or luggage.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma preferred
  • Background in child and youth care, social work, psychology, education/teacher assisting, nursing or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered
  • Minimum one year experience working with children or young adults
  • Valid class IV driver’s license, or willing and eligible to obtain within three (3) months of employment
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification, or willing and eligible to obtain within three (3) months of employment
  • Certification in English as an Additional Language instruction preferred
  • Clear Criminal Background and Child Abuse Registry Checks
  • Familiarity with professional dance training an asset
  • Ability to speak and write French, Japanese and other languages an asset
