This position is responsible for ensuring the safety and protection of all RWB employees, contractors, students, and visitors. The Security Officer protects the RWB building from theft, property damage, and maintains control over building access.


  • Maintain a safe and environment by performing routine security checks by patrolling RWB property perimeter and premises.
  • Note and keep track of all those entering and exiting the building.
  • Respond to all safety, security, and emergency situations and provide necessary assistance to all RWB employees, contractors, students, and visitors.
  • Report suspicious activity and complete reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities.
  • Monitor RWB’s video surveillance system and review footage.
  • Keep daily logs of activities and any issues that were addressed.
  • Address any infractions of building protocols and forward to management.
  • Inspect, test, and maintain RWB security systems, and schedule maintenance as required.
  • Monitor and control the entrance of visitors, ensuring they are adhering to RWB protocols and assist Box Office in verifying the identification of visitors.
  • Follow procedures for various initiatives including fire prevention and accident investigations.
  • Conduct exterior property checks for maintain issues, malfunctions, and hazards.
  • Respond to inquiries at the Security desk.
  • Establish a professional and visible presence at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.


The Security Guard sits, stands, and walks for extended periods of time, monitoring and patrolling the RWB building. Communication with the public and RWB staff is constant and on-going, requiring the need to make independent decisions with tact and diplomacy.
Success of this position requires ongoing communication with internal stakeholders, flexibility with shifting priorities, and timely decision making. This position will primarily work Thursday evenings and weekends.


  • Manitoba Security Guard Training license required.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Two (2) years’ experience working in a Security field.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Knowledge of fire prevention, response, and inspection fire procedures.
  • Expert experience of Workplace Health and Safety standards an asset.
  • Experience with use of MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Clear Criminal Background Check and Child Abuse Registry Check.
  • Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination.
