Gael Lambiotte once graced Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet stages as Principal dancer, performing lead roles in Swan Lake, Nutcracker, The Sleeping Beauty, Val Caniporoli’s A Cinderella Story, Romeo + Juliet and many others. Now, after a long and fulfilling career, he has returned to the RWB to pass on his knowledge and passion for dance to the RWB Professional Division students.
Born in 1974 in Brussels, Belgium, Mr. Lambiotte began his ballet training with Piotr Nardelli and the Royal Ballet of Flanders School. During his career he was a Principal dancer with Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Opera de Bordeaux, the Deutsche Oper in Dusseldorf, the Dutch National Ballet in Amsterdam, the Boston Ballet and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens.
Throughout his career, Mr. Lambiotte was nominated for many awards including the “Prix Benois de la Dance” in 1999, 2001 and 2003. He appeared in various galas and guested with companies throughout Japan, Europe and America, and was a Special Guest Artist with the Royal Ballet of London during their 2002 Australian tour. Mr. Lambiotte has also appeared in numerous works by Balanchine and has had the opportunity to perform pieces from a huge range of world-class choreographers such as Jiri Kilyan, Mats Ek, William Forsythe, Hans van Manen, Martha Graham, Christopher Weeldon, David Dawson and Mark Morris.
Since 2010, Mr. Lambiotte has been working as a Gyrotonic Instructor, a technique specially designed for dancers to prevent injuries and become stronger physically and mentally. He had his own studio in France and worked closely with dancers to help them apply Gyrotonic in their dance. Between 2016 and 2018, he worked at a large ballet school in France, teaching all levels, from beginners to pre-professionals, as well as setting and choreographing the end of the year shows (Coppelia/ La Bayadère). In 2018, he spent a year at Ballet del Sur, a major national Ballet Company in Argentina, as a Ballet Master.
