Joshua Hidson joined the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company’s Corps de Ballet in 2019 after working as a Guest Artist with Ballet Kelowna. Thus far, his favourite productions have been John Alleyne’s A Streetcar Named Desire, Greg Horsman’s La Bayadère, Jorden Morris’ Moulin Rouge® – The Ballet, and Mark Godden’s The Magic Flute. Mr. Hidson also hopes to perform Septime Webre’s The Wizard of Oz again in the near future.

Originally from Edmonton, Alberta, Mr. Hidson moved to Victoria at the age of 17 to further his education at the Victoria Academy of Ballet. There, he completed the post-secondary Bridge Program under the direction of KerryLynn Turner. While training at the Academy, Mr. Hidson was fortunate to work with many guest teachers and choreographers, including John Alleyne, Jorden Morris, and Alysa Pires. In the summer of 2018, Mr. Hidson was selected to apprentice under the direction of Wen Wei Wang in Dance Victoria’s annual Choreographic Lab.

Mr. Hidson’s pre-show ritual includes doing his makeup two hours before a show begins. He is a self-proclaimed perfectionist and says that he likes to have time to get his lines right – it helps him to get in a good headspace before going onstage.

When he’s not dancing, Mr. Hidson enjoys playing card games with his family who is “serious about their games.” Their favourite is a game called Dirty Dozen. If he were stranded on a desert island with only three things he’d take his girlfriend, his espresso machine, and his bicycle.
