Liam Caines, a Second Soloist with Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet, has been moonlighting as a dance teacher since 2013.

With a deep appreciation for the artform of ballet, Mr. Caines is inspired to share his knowledge and passion with dance students of all ages. He has been casually teaching in the Recreational Division for the past four years, where he is a favourite among the senior level adult ballet students and a mentor to the young men and women in the RWB Intensive Training Program.

Originally from Kingston, New Brunswick, Mr. Caines danced in Saint John at Port City Dance Academy and on occasion has returned to teach during the summer months. He began his training at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School Professional Division in 2003 and was invited to join the RWB Company in 2007. He was later promoted to Corps de Ballet in 2009 and then to Second Soloist in 2017.

Most recently, Mr. Caines performed the featured role of the Horse in the world premier of James Kudelka’s Vespers, where he partnered then iconic Canadian prima ballerina, Evelyn Hart. He has also performed as Drosselmeyer (Nutcracker), Hilarion (Giselle), and Clergyman (Mark Godden’s Going Home Star - Truth and Reconciliation). In 2014, he was hand picked by the internationally acknowledged choreographer James Kudelka to perform the role of Lead Man in his ballet The Four Seasons.

Along with the RWB Company, he performed Itzik Galili’s Hikarizatto and Mark Godden’s As Above, So Below before an international audience at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games Cultural Olympiad. He has also had the pleasure to perform with Q Dance, Ballet BC, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and the Manitoba Opera.
