Biography
Susan Glass sat as a valued member of the RWB’s Board of Directors from 1987 to 1999 and was Chair from 1995 to 1998. She has been a subscriber and donor for longer than the RWB’s records allow and remains a member of the RWB’s Honorary Council.
Ms. Glass has also sat on the RWB’s Gala Committee and acted as its Gala Chair. She has held the Board positions of Vice President, Development; member of the Development Committee; Events Chair; and member of the Nominations Committee.
In addition to her leadership positions, Ms. Glass has been an important, influential and vocal advocate for the RWB across Canada and around the world. She is a talented and dedicated fundraiser and has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the RWB. One of her most innovative campaigns was “Beauty and the Boys”, in which the RWB, with Ms. Glass as the lead fundraiser, cultivated and solicited a group of donors across the country for their sponsorship to build a new production of Sleeping Beauty.
Ms. Glass’s support as a leader, donor, fundraiser, and advocate has allowed the RWB to tour across North America and the world. Her support as a donor ensured the RWB produced new ballets and her generous donations to the Creations Fund ensures the RWB builds new works and refurbishes existing repertoire in perpetuity.
Ms. Glass’s continued advocacy of arts and culture is evident in her support of the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, the Shaw Festival, the Canadian Arts Summit, and the National Advisory Council for the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards.
Ms. Glass received the Order of Canada for her commitment and support of the arts in Western Canada and her leadership with the RWB, the Shaw Festival, and the Banff Centre for the Arts (2009).
