Evelyn Hart returns as Royal Winnipeg Ballet season finale brings together legacy, new voices, and a world premiere
April 30 to May 3 at the Centennial Concert Hall
Evelyn Hart returns to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet stage as part of the Company’s 2025–2026 season finale, The Four Seasons with šɛgatəm & Odyssey, running April 30 to May 3 at the Centennial Concert Hall.
One of Canada’s most celebrated ballet artists, Hart is joined in The Four Seasons by distinguished guest performers Dmitri Dovgoselets, Alexander Gamayunov, and CindyMarie Small. Together, they bring a powerful sense of legacy and continuity to a program that also looks forward, featuring three distinct choreographic voices.
Hart will also take part in a pre-show chat on Sunday, May 3, offering audiences a rare opportunity to hear directly from one of the defining figures in Canadian dance. The series of pre-show conversations runs throughout the program, with Dwight Rhoden on April 30 and Houston Thomas on May 1.
The triple bill includes James Kudelka’s The Four Seasons which traces the arc of a life through the changing seasons, following Everyman from youth to death. Set to Antonio Vivaldi’s enduring score, the work of striking clarity and emotional depth remains a defining contribution to Canadian ballet.
Cameron sinkʷə Fraser-Monroe’s šɛgatəm (pronounced shAY-ga-tum) makes its Canadian premiere following its debut at New York City Center. Drawing on traditional, contemporary, and ballet practices, the work shares the story of a leader facing burnout who must learn, the hard way, to lean on his community. Rooted in Tla’amin Nation teachings, the work reflects resilience, responsibility, and the importance of collective support. The work is set to music by Polaris Prize–winning artist Jeremy Dutcher.
The program concludes with Odyssey by Dwight Rhoden, a former principal dancer with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and co-founder of Complexions Contemporary Ballet. Rhoden has created over 100 ballets and worked with companies worldwide, including New York City Ballet, The Joffrey Ballet, and San Francisco Ballet. The New York Times has described him as “one of the most sought out choreographers of the day.” Odyssey makes its world premiere in Winnipeg on April 30, 2026.
This production is made possible through the generous support of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra as Arts Partner and The Asper Foundation as Live Music Benefactor.
