The season opens with a thrilling double bill celebrating the genius of Igor Stravinsky, one of the 20th century’s most innovative composers. The Fairy’s Kiss, choreographed by internationally acclaimed Alexei Ratmansky, brings a contemporary perspective to Stravinsky’s enchanting music, blending precision, elegance, and drama.

Complementing it is a bold, fresh interpretation of Firebird, choreographed by rising talent Houston Thomas.

Together, these works showcase the vitality of Stravinsky’s scores while exploring the creative voices shaping ballet today. Audiences are invited to witness a dialogue between past and present, tradition and innovation, in a program that underscores RWB’s commitment to theatrical storytelling, choreographic excellence, and the fearless reinvention of classical repertoire for contemporary audiences.

About the Ballets

Premiered in 2017 with Miami City Ballet. A one-act homage to Tchaikovsky, inspired by the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale The Ice-Maiden. Set to Igor Stravinsky’s The Fairy’s Kiss (1928).

A new creation commissioned for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, premiering in 2026. Set to Igor Stravinsky’s The Fire Bird (1910).
