Bio
Marilee Schroeder lives by the idea that “Dance is about the process and the journey.” She was inspired to become a dance teacher by her own mentors and teachers who shared with her their skills, passion and commitment to dance throughout her seven years of training at Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet School Professional Division.
Ms. Schroeder returned to the RWB School to attend the Teacher Training Program and, while still a student, was invited to join the RWB School Artistic Faculty in 2010. She currently teaches ballet in the Recreational Division as well as in the Sharing Dance program. Ms. Schroeder holds an Associate Diploma with Cecchetti Canada and is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Dance teachers training program, holding RAD-RTS designation.
In addition to her work at the RWB School, Ms. Schroeder has taught at the School of Contemporary Dancers, MasterWorks, Kick-it and DanceWorks. Her goal is to teach her students about the pure joy of dance which she acquired throughout her years of study with teachers such as David Moroni, Arlene Minkhorst, Jacqueline Weber and Johanne Gingras, and also from time spent performing with the RWB Company and the Manitoba Opera in small roles in Firebird, Tales of Hoffman, and Aida.
Ms. Schroeder fondly recalls watching Evelyn Hart and David Peregrine perform, and being mentored by the great Galina Yordanova: “I loved coming to dance daily as I loved that push to be better than the previous day, but the best part in my days were when Ms. Galina would catch me in the hallways, she would pinch my cheeks lovingly and call me little one – she always took time.” It is because of moments like these that Ms. Schroeder continues to give to students her full support and guidance throughout their own dance journeys.
