Bio

Maritel Centurion was born in Reconquista, Sta Fe, Argentina and started training at age 14 in Argentina with the Instituto Superior de Arte and Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires as well as with private studios with teachers Wasil Tupin and Rosita Lisogorsky. Ms. Centurion eventually moved to Canada to pursue her Teacher Training with Canada’s National Ballet School. ​
Ms. Centurion has studied Classical Ballet and Danza Española (Flamenco, Bolero, Estilizada and Folk) as well as Dance for Seniors Living with Dementia (via Seminar Baycrest National Ballet School & Pilot Project Trenton-Brandon Universities Research). She holds a Ballet Teacher diploma from Canada’s National Ballet School, an Associate Diploma from the Cecchetti Ballet Society, as well as teaching certifications from the International Spanish Dance Society and the Royal Academy of Dancing.
Before teaching, Ms. Centurion danced with Contemporary Group Mi Danza ‘82, and Ballet Oficial de Cordoba in the Corps de ballet from 1982-86. She was also a member of the Paula Moreno Spanish Dance Company from 1992-95. She has extensive choreographic/performance experience throughout the world including Tango Silhouette a contemporary Argentine tango duet for the Museum of Civilization’s opening gala, a collaboration with Theatre Flamenco and Canada Dance Festival, Picasso’s Exhibition at the opening gala at the Winnipeg Art Gallery where she performed, choreographed, and directed and she co-choreographed Call to Earth for Nafro Dance Productions with Director Cassimiro Nhussi. She also had the pleasure of choreographing the Nutcracker’s Spanish Dance for KOBA’s Max & Ruby in the Nutcracker Suite.
From there, Ms. Centurion taught at the National Ballet School of Canada Junior Division from 1990-1991 and then at the Quinte Ballet School from 1992-1999. She joined the RWB School in 2001 as a Ballet instructor in the Recreational Division, Dance Intensive and Satellite Programs, as well as a Spanish Dance and Historical Dance teacher, Ballet teacher in the Professional Division and Spanish dance and Flamenco for the Aspirant Program. Ms. Centurion has been a staple at the RWB School for many years and has worked with the Aspirants on choreography for On the Edge, rehearsing with the Recreational Division students for the RWB Company’s Nutcracker and has served as a First Steps adjudicator. She has found her niche in the fusion of styles with classical ballet and the Danza Española (Flamenco, Bolero, Estilizada).
Ms. Centurion was inspired by Arnold Spohr’s quote ‘A good work never becomes outdated’ as well as many teachers throughout her dance and teaching career including Luisa Pericet for Escuela Bolera and Antonio Najarro for Estilizada.a. Morbi scelerisque tincidunt lorem vel auctor.
