ABOUT

Ballet Education

The RWB School has spent over 50 years developing a unique curriculum that builds versatile young artist with a strong technique and the ability to be competitive internationally. A commitment to years of slow growth and evolution are the root of this very successful method of training.

Students do intensive work in ballet and pointe technique and in higher levels, pas de deux and variations. In addition to classical training, students receive a comprehensive education in character and modern dance. The curriculum is augmented by classes in historical dance, conditioning, music, drama, repertoire, improvisation, choreography, visual art, dance history, creative movement, strength-training, and Pilates.

The RWB School has forged strong partnerships with St. John Brebeuf School and the University of Winnipeg Collegiate two highly regarded local private schools, ensuring that our young artists are challenged and stimulated beyond time spent in our studios. These partnerships enable us to offer the best overall support to the student body and ensure that the RWB School continues to rank among the best ballet schools in the world. These partnerships allow our students the opportunity to venture beyond our walls on a daily basis affords them the ability to share ideas and develop friendships with a diverse group of young people, further enriching their RWB experience.

The RWB Student Living Centre offers a safe and supportive environment for aspiring young artists, blending the independence of boarding life with the structure of healthy routines.

Students also attend nutrition classes and peer relationships courses to provide students with the skills required to live away from home and to manage personal and professional relationships in an intensive training environment.

Your Path to Full-Time Training

Our three-week Summer Session is a pivotal step in the audition process. It offers dancers the opportunity to experience our exceptional training firsthand and assess whether the RWB School is the right fit for them. At the same time, it allows our team to evaluate each dancer for acceptance into the full-time program.

Frequently Asked Questions

Students are asked to arrive one hour before their audition start time. This gives enough time to register or check in and warm up. It can be stressful for students if they are late and feel rushed.

All students are asked to bring a photograph of themselves facing front, showing a tendu in second position, with arms in second position. A photo can be taken at the audition for an extra $10 CAD, to be paid at that time. Please do NOT send photos and/or payment for photos in the mail or by email.

Audition classes generally run for one hour and are conducted by members of the RWB School artistic faculty. Applicants audition as a group and will be assessed on talent, aptitude for classical dance, flexibility, coordination, musicality and artistry of motion, and a demonstrated passion for dance.

Students are encouraged to make some time before their audition class to warm up and stretch; we suggest at least 30 minutes!
When it’s time to join the virtual audition class, students may click on the Zoom link that was forwarded to them at the time of registration.
Virtual audition classes will run for one hour and will be conducted by a member of the RWB School artistic faculty. Please note that a second member of the artistic faculty will be observing. Students audition as a group and will be assessed on talent, aptitude for classical dance, flexibility, coordination, musicality and artistry of motion, and a demonstrated passion for dance.

Students are asked to wear a leotard (bodysuit), tights and soft shoes for their audition class. Pointe shoes are not required.
Students who do not have soft ballet slippers and/or leotard and/or tights are still encouraged to attend the auditions and wear socks and tight-fitting clothes that will allow them to move. Please wear long hair in a tight bun if possible, or off the face.
Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle.

Master classes and auditions both have a $50 fee.

Students for whom English is not their first  language are also required to attend English as an Additional Language classes for supplementary academic and training support.
