Bio

Skylar Campbell joined the Royal Winnipeg Ballet as a Principal Dancer in 2026.

Born in Laguna Beach, California, Skylar trained with Victor and Tatiana Kasatsky before joining The National Ballet of Canada in 2009, where he was promoted to Principal Dancer in 2018. In 2022, he joined Houston Ballet as a Principal Dancer, performing with the company until embarking on new artistic projects in 2025.

Recognized for his versatility across both classical and contemporary repertoire, Skylar’s career highlights include the title role in John Neumeier’s Nijinsky, Crown Prince Rudolf in Kenneth MacMillan’s Mayerling, Prince Florimund in Christopher Stowell’s The Sleeping Beauty, and title roles in Guillaume Côté’s Le Petit Prince and Will Tuckett’s Pinocchio. Throughout his career, he has performed principal roles in works by many of today’s leading choreographers, including Christopher Wheeldon, Alexei Ratmansky, John Neumeier, William Forsythe, Crystal Pite, Wayne McGregor, James Kudelka, Stanton Welch, Dwight Rhoden, Alex Ekman, and many others.

His repertoire also includes numerous principal and soloist roles in ballets by George Balanchine, as well as works by Frederick Ashton, John Cranko, Jiří Kylián, Kenneth MacMillan, Jerome Robbins, Rudolf Nureyev, Justin Peck, Marco Goecke, Harald Lander, Marius Petipa, and August Bournonville.

Skylar has appeared on leading stages around the world, including the David H. Koch Theater in New York, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Staatsoper Hamburg, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., San Francisco’s War Memorial Opera House, and the Los Angeles Music Center.

A finalist at the Prix de Lausanne, Skylar also won the Bronze Medal at Youth America Grand Prix and received the William Marrié Award for Dramatic Excellence. In 2015, he was named one of Dance Magazine‘s “25 to Watch,” and in 2025, he served on the jury of the Prix de Lausanne.

In 2019, Skylar founded the Skylar Campbell Dance Collective, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting artists across North America through performance, curation, and collaboration. Through this work, he continues to champion emerging and established artists while cultivating new opportunities for creation, connection, and public engagement.
